I honestly don't know much about Key and Peele other that they have a show on comedy central.
The plot is exactly what was expected as per its trailers and it was really well executed.
There were several plot twists ,some of them predictable and others not so much (weren't we all thinking Clarence's wife was cheating on him?). In fact Clarence's wife stole the show at the end but let me rewind this review and explain broadly what happens in this film.
Two guys get involved with a gang and a drug deal in order for them to rescue a kitten that had been stolen from one of them.
First off, if you aren't a cat person, you will easily make the transition to loving those little guys by the time the movie ends. That kitten is so darn cute.
This movie had so many great ingredients.
Let's list them:
1. A kitten
2. George Michael songs (The scene in the van where Clarence explains why he thinks George is the ultimate gangster is one I will NEVER forget.)
3. Great side characters especially Method Man and the gnarly Luis Guzman (we all held our breaths when he grabbed Keanu). Also Key and Peele as the non speaking Dresden brothers *wink wink*.
4. We got one of the best drug induced hallucinations in the history of movie making with George Michael as God and the real voice of Keanu (the one from The Matrix NOT Bill and Ted ).
5. Did I mention the kitten?
Mild SPOILER:
I wanted to thank the movie makers for explaining to us why Keanu will always remain a kitten. What else could we ask for!
As a side note I tend to admire movies that take place in LA and this one was no exception. An immensely fun time at the movies!
Don't miss it especially if you like cats.
Finally the music:
Oh it was awesome...outside of all those kick ass George Michael songs which I can still lip synch to, the thematic bits of the score were reminiscent of an old Tom Cruise / Bruckheimer movie and the action bits worked tastefully.
